Mojave Triangle Cowl Crochet Pattern

If you love the look of the Mojave Shawl in the Crochet Foundry Fall 2021 Issue but prefer a cowl, we’ve included directions to make this design into a triangle cowl.

Sizes

28” circumference, 10” cowl length, 18” triangle shawl length 

Total Yarn Needed For Cowl Version:

WeCrochet Twill (Worsted/Weight 4, 100% Superwash Merino Wool, 149 yds/100 g per hank) - 450 yards approximately

Color A: Horchata Heather (520 yds/3.5 hanks)
Color B:  Voyage Heather (75 yds/.6 hank)

Mojave Shawl Pattern Design

Cowl Section
Begins a new row count

Additional Notes:
Color changes are not required. If you have made changes on your shawl portion you will work the same sections with the same colors used for the triangle. 


Row 1: Working into the RS, ch 1, sc in the same st, sc evenly along top edge of triangle, sl st into the top of the first sc, skipping over the beg ch-1, to  join the top of triangle into a cowl, turn work. Stitch count must be a multiple of 4, add or decrease by 1-2 sts as necessary on this row or the following row.


Row 2: Ch 3 (or CSDC here and throughout) in the first st, dc in each st around, sl st into the top of the ch-3 (or CSDC to join, here and throughout), turn work.


Row 3: Ch 3, dc in each st around, sl st into top of ch-3 to join, turn work. 


Row 4: Ch 1, sl blo in each st around, sl st into the first sl-st, skipping over the beg ch-1, turn work.


Row 5: Ch 3, dc in the unused (previously the front) loop from Row 2 in each st around, sl st into the top of the ch-3, turn work.


Repeat Rows 4 and 5: Consecutively one time. 


Row 6: Ch 3, dc in each st around, sl st into top of ch-3 to join, turn work. 


Row 7: Ch 3 and 2 dc in the same st, ch 1, skip 3 sts, *3 dc in the next st, ch 1, skip 3 sts, repeat from * around sl sti in the top of the ch-3 to join, turn work. 


Rows 8 and 9: Ch 3 and 2 dc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, skip 3 sts, *3 dc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, skip 3 sts, repeat from * around, sl st into the top of the ch 3 to join, turn work.


Row 10: Ch 3, ex-fpdc in each of the next 3 sts, *dc in the next ch-1 sp, ex-fpdc in each of the next 3 sts, repeat from * around, sl st into the top of the ch 3 to join, turn work.

Row 11: Ch 3, dc in each st around, sl st into top of ch-3 to join, turn work. 


Repeat Rows 4 through 11: Consecutively one time. 


Repeat Rows 4 through 9: Consecutively one time. 


Finishing

Using Color B, measure out three times the length of the area you are working into. Working into the RS, use a needle to whip stitch around the raised base of the slip stitch rows. 

Fasten off, weave in ends. Wet block to finished measurements.
