Crochet Designer Interview: Rashami Sarode's Alpine Beanie

Here at Crochet Foundry, we LOVE working with all the talented crochet designers that we have the privilege to showcase in our magazine. In this Designer Interview series, we'll get to know some of this month's issue's designers. Today we're talking to crochet designer Rashami Sarode, who contributed the Alpine Beanie crochet pattern in our October 2023 issue.

What's your name and brand (if you have one)?
Rashami Sarode (Joy of Creation Crochet)
What is your design for this month, and can you tell us a little bit about what inspired it?
Alpine beanie. Every crocheter loves beautifully textured alpine stitch. I wanted to create a top down beanie with this stitch, without any bulk at the top.

What were some challenges about designing this piece?
Crocheting a flat circle was must for this design, to achieve a perfect fit. This also avoids bulk/gather at the top unlike a tube made into beanie by sewing at the top. The biggest challenge was to crochet a flat circle with alpine stitch increases. I tried and failed a few times, but finally figured it out.

What are a couple of fun facts about you?
When I was 11-12 years old, I was staying at my aunt's place for holidays. She had this tiny steel crochet hook. She taught me how to crochet sc. So I practiced sc spiral for hours with that tiny hook and sewing thread!!
Fast forward twelve years, my cousin (the same aunt's daughter) taught me basic macrame knots and how to make a macrame bag. I was googling for macrame bag patterns, and I came across this beautiful purple bag, which was crocheted. At that moment, I decided to learn crochet so that I could make that bag one day. And this is how my crochet journey started.
